- Penny Hardaway is his favorite player

Analytics:

- Kevin Pelton's draft analytics suggest a strong correlation between players with a high steal rate in college and NBA success

Pick and Roll:

- Great at reading the pick and roll as the ball handler - averaged 4 assists in college

- Good bounce passer to roller when teams ice screens

- Needs to improve his shot off the dribble, but capable of creating space and always getting his shot off

Abilities and Areas of Improvement:

- McCaw has good height, long arms, and incredible stealing instincts both on-ball and in help (similar to Iguodala)

- Very high IQ player

- Should be able to guard 1-3, and with improved strength should be able to switch on 4s

- McCaw is very quick

- McCaw is a good ball handler whose head is always up

- His shot needs some work as his release point is low and inconsistent (sometimes off his palm rather than fingertips)

- By adding size and an improved stroke, McCaw should become an elite 3D player in the league

- Showed great improvement between year 1 and 2 of college, and with his athleticism and instincts there is no reason to believe he will stop improving

Game Analysis:

- vs. Los Angeles Lakers

- D'Angelo Russell

- Anthony Brown

- McCaw had 6 steals in the game I watched (4 in 1st quarter) - sometimes reaches but stays low and strips when opportunity is there

- McCaw is always engaged, aware, and plays hard

- Impressive court coverage - stopped penetration as the big weak side help and recovered to contest Russell's 3 pointer and force a miss

- Steals in on-ball, help, loose balls; always seemed to come up with it

- Shot release point appears to change - too much palm - not broken, can be fixed

- Incredible quickness getting around screens and using fakes to get open

- Challenged every shot taken against him, forcing fadeaways or difficult floaters even when guarding taller players (Anthony Brown, Brandon Ingram)

- Skied for an offensive rebound over 2 taller Laker players - rebounding potential - quick off his feet, long arms and gets very high

- Smart playmaker consistently driving and kicking to open 3 point shooters - head always up

- Gets very low in stance on defense, which provides additional strength allowing him to guard bigger players

- Very aware help defender

- Avoids contact on fast break at hoop, but that should improve as his strength does

- Always made the right play; unselfish

NBA Comparison: Smaller Andre Iguodala

Team Highness on him: High - Signed June 24th the day after being drafted

Current Ability: 6

Projection as an NBA Player: 7 - Good role player, potential starter
